This works out to be around twelve metres an hour, which is the same as the height of a five-story building. Considering they can be less than twelve centimetres long — which is smaller than the size of an adult hand — moles are incredibly fast diggers.
Moles spend most of their life underground. They have claws built for digging and tiny eyes, which protect them from dirt and infection. Moles are considered pests in some northern parts of the world.
