Two Hearts

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH GLORIA
It was my absolute pleasure to meet the lovely Gloria who drove all the way from Wollongong for a photoshoot in January. Gloria was awarded Barnardos mother of the year award in 2014 for the courage, strength and support she shared during her beautiful daughter’s battle with brain cancer that sadly Cass lost in 2013. Gloria’s bravery is astonishing, and she is blessed to have a supportive family and a young grandchild with another on the way, that helps keep her positive.

Earthly Angel – the flight of Megan

BEHIND THE SCENES
I am delighted that Megan wanted to be part of my portrait series, and I knew from the start that the process would be smooth sailing. I was, and am still emerging from the other side of my own three month journey through a massive creative block – which, to someone who used to feeling creative, feels like a prolonged injury that I am recovering from.

Awkward Moments

THE MAKING OF..
Meet this gorgeous flightless bird who really, really wants to fly. Her common name is the Flightless Orange Toed Green Billed Pootoo. Very social creatures that are emotionally dependent on their mother for the first ten years of life. If they become separated from her, they will try to bond with the next living creature they see. This young Pootoo, sadly, lost her way home, and is now attempting to find a new mother in the form of the young humans she has identified in the village below.

Firstly, thank you to Anne for letting me into your world and having the courage to share some of your amazing a moving story with me as part of this series. I love the results, and this portrait has been a small marathon, with two studio photo shoots, plus another home shoot with some of Anne's most precious memories.

The making of the Journey

BEHIND THE SCENES
Here is the finished portrait of the very lovely Karin Adcock. Karin established Pandora jewellery in Australia, and the narration captured here is complex. It tells the tale of an beautiful story of trust that happened when in India when Karin was in her twenties, and how that ability to trust empowered her business decisions and her life.

Slipping back in time

BEHIND THE SCENES
I had the pleasure of working with the very lovely and very talented author, Belinda Murrell this month to create this magical portrait. Belinda has sold over 100,000 books in Australia. Her Lulu belle series are aimed at primary school girls, and her "Timeslip" series are targeted at a slightly older demographic, and as you have already worked out, also happens to be the name of the portrait.

The Creation of Evolution

BEHIND THE SCENES
Firstly, a huge thank you to Barbara for being so amazingly brave and courageous in allowing me to create this incredible portrait. It's definitely not easy to make the decision to be "exposed" in this way, and it's also a big deal to mentally and emotionally commit to this. Barb was a true professional, and was so easy to work with. I am really pleased with the results, and I think it has really captured the essence of Barb's journey.

So what is a Hairy Nosed Hornbee?

THE HAIRY NOSED HORNBEE
The Hairy Nosed Hornbee, a distant relative to the wombat, is seen here in his normal state of fear. Highly intelligent and incredibly shy, you would be lucky to see one in a lifetime. They are especially scared of children, and sometimes eat them. Sadly, he has missed out on so many life adventures through his own self-induced fear.

Everything you have always wanted is on the other side of fear.

"The Linchpin" - behind the scenes

THE LINCHPIN
This portrait is of my amazing friend Sharon, who is seen here emerging out of the top of mountain skirt in a lush tropical and surreal setting. While on holidays in NZ in January, I had a vision of her as an earth goddess/mother emerging from a mountain, where the mountain was her dress. Her story is as intriguing as it is complex, and involves lost love, serious physical injuries, and the endurance of pain, both physical and emotional, that has shaped the woman that has emerged out the other side.
